When to Go

Game viewing is usually at its best in the dry season from May to October when animals are concentrated near water. During the hotter month most of the game tends to lie up during the heat of the day, so the recommended times to set out on drives are the early mornings and late afternoons. The chances of spotting lions are better just after sunrise then at other times of the day and elephants are wide-awake and active in and around the rivers in the middle of the day.

Going during the green months of November to April takes on a different perspective, the land is much more fertile and sometimes wildlife viewing can be harder. However, it is the best time to go birding and salt pans may have water in them attracting a host of birds including a sea of flamingoes. It is also less expensive during these months.
