Namibia is a vast country where sand dunes disappear into the ocean, wildlife graze in the shimmer of mirages and there is a wilderness waiting for you all to explore. Visit the oldest desert in the world, the Namib Desert, see the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei and travel though the world famous Etosha National Park.

This itinerary has been put together encompassing the best of Namibia and most suitable for families. The scenery is spectacular and will keep younger family members occupied with changing views each day. There are also a varied number of activities as well as an educational slant to this itinerary.

Day 1: Villa Violet – get ready in Windhoek
See Windhoek at your own pace and recover from your travels.
Accommodation: The rooms open out onto a patio with tables and chairs, and a small turquoise-blue pool glistens invitingly at the bottom of the garden. The B&B is in close proximity to restaurants and shops.

Day 2 – 3: Desert Homestead – climb the mighty dunes
comfortable lodge accommodation namibiaDesert Homestead is a beautifully decorated and friendly establishment with a bar, restaurant and pool, and optional horse riding or nature drives within this spectacular area can be arranged. The lodge is designed in a rustic, farm style and is located just 27km from the entrance to Sesriem & Sossusvlei.  Enjoy home cooked meals and friendly service.

Accommodation: The bungalows look out over the desert and are set in beautiful surroundings. The rooms are ensuite and have double doors opening up onto a small veranda. They all have electricity with fans.

Day 4 – 5: Cornerstone Guest House – explore Swakopmund
IMG_0508Cornerstone Guesthouse is a small, private and peaceful bed and breakfast an easy walk away from the sea and the town centre of Swakopmund on Namibia’s fascinating Skeleton Coast.

Accommodation: The rooms at Cornerstone are set in private gardens on the outskirts of Swakopmund. Each room is tastefully decorated with en-suite facilities and all the mod cons and the peaceful setting is a real welcome after your drive and activities.

Day 6 – 7: Grootberg Lodge – track black rhino
accommodation Damaraland safariPerched on the lip of the Grootberg Plateau, with an infinite view down the stunning Klip River Valley, lies Grootberg Lodge. The community own the lodge so that the benefits go directly to the community. Here is the chance to track black rhino, go on nature walks and visit the community.

Accommodation: Family cottage set away from the other  cottages, with separate rooms and its own veranda overlooking the view and beyond. Perfect after a day of rhino tracking.

Days 8 – 9: Etosha Safari Camp – discover vast Etosha
Etosha accommodation safari lionNamibia’s Etosha Safari Camp, is conveniently located just 10kms from Etosha National Park’s Andersson’s Gate. Etosha, meaning “Great White Place”, is dominated by a massive mineral pan. Around the pan the area teems with wildlife, ready for your own adventure.

Accommodation: Uniquely decorated safari bungalows, set on the first hill of the Ondundozonanandana mountain range. They are tastefully decorated with artistically painted floors and metal furniture, created by local Namibian craftsmen.  The Camp has a great feel for it and ideal for families.

Days 10 – 11: Mushara Bush Lodge – drive across Etosha
Namibia safari zebra waterholeThe drive across Etosha is something else.  Take it at your own pace and explore the vastness of Etosha. The Mushara Bush Camp offers a down-to-earth tented bush camp experience which is well suited as an exceptional affordable base for families exploring the magical Etosha Pan National Park.

Accommodation: Each of the 16 custom made en-suite tents is built from canvas, wood and local limestone. With an 8 m2 private veranda and windows from floor to ceiling, these tents are spacious and airy. 

Days 12 – 13: Frans Indongo Lodge – safari galore
Namibia accommodation deckDecorated in local African style, the lodge is surrounded by lush gardens boasting a lapa from where guests can enjoy sundowners overlooking the beautiful thorn bush savanna. Activities at the lodge include offered bird watching and nature drives. While staying at Frans Indongo you can experience purest nature. The 170 km² farm boasts an extraordinary abundance of game, including white and black rhino, black wildebeest and hartebeest. They take you game-viewing on sundowner drives.

Accommodation: Family cottage modelled on traditional Ovambo homesteads: palisades of tall pointed stakes embrace the lodge and convey a feeling of the warmth and security of home right in the middle of the African bush.
