The peace and tranquillity of this largely uninhabited southern corner of Namibia will enthral you. The variety includes the majestic dunes of Sossusvlei, the rocky splendour of the Fish River Canyon, the bubbling hot water springs of Ais-ais and the seemingly endless rows of ‘streets’ and dunes in the Kalahari desert. Visit the ghost town of Kolmanskop to see the sand which is slowly engulfing the buildings, fascinating viewing.

Day 1: Rivendell Guesthouse – relax after your journey to Namibia
Explore Windhoek at your own pace.
Accommodation: lovely furnished rooms with a chilled out feeling and a central swimming pool.

Day 2: Bagatelle Game Ranch – experience the Kalahari Desert

The ranch is characterised by huge red sands dunes in an unashamedly luxurious setting. Discover the Kalahari, an ancient living desert of harsh land, a land of relentless sun and searing wind, a land of great thirst and mystery.

Accommodation: these unique wooden stilt chalets on top of the dune belt offer an unsurpassed view and are perfect to see and breathe in the colours and smells of the Kalahari.

Days 3  4: Canyon Roadhouse – visit Fish River canyon
Namibia self drive safari accommodationResembling a roadhouse of old with a large red roof, the lodge is a veritable treasure-house and a ‘must-do’ place to visit, so why not stay here? Take a guided excursion to the canyon viewpoints, join a day hike along the superlative canyon trail or drive the 4×4 Wildebeest Route towards Canyon Lodge and Village to view zebra and wildebeest on the grassy plains. Sunset is best appreciated from the hill above the lodge looking out onto the flat-topped Holoog Mountain and the Gondwana Canyon Park.

Accommodation: Canyon Roadhouse has more than just a fascinating interior. Large attractive rooms, positioned around courtyards, make the Roadhouse a comfortable and enchanting place to stay.

Days 5  6: Desert Horse Inn – watch the wild horses of Namibia

Spend time out in the desert and wonder at the enormous space that you are in.

Accommodation: the attractive and airy rooms are built in a style indicative of the late century farmhouse and painted a deep, rich sienna that glows alluringly in the late afternoon sunshine. Time to take in your surroundings. 

Days 7  8: Desert Homestead – sleep in the Namib Desert

Optional horse riding or nature drives within this spectacular area can be arranged. The lodge is designed in a rustic, farm style and is located just 27km from the entrance to Sesriem & Sossusvlei.  Enjoy home cooked meals and friendly service.

Accommodation: The bungalows look out over the desert and are set in beautiful surroundings. The rooms are ensuite and have double doors opening up onto a small veranda. They all have electricity and fans.

Day 9: Namib Desert Lodge – climb the mighty dunes

Drive from Desert Homestead and arrive in time to see the sunrise over the sand dunes and explore the Dead Vlei, an extraordinary pan with petrified trees and stunning back drop. Maybe climb one of the mighty dunes in the area to get incredible views across a sea of sand. A photographers delight.

Accommodation: The spacious wooden bungalows have beds with wheels to enable guests to sleep out under the stars and a dining area with a large wooden deck affords the best views of the landscape.

Day 10 & 11 Brigadoon Guesthouse – discover Swakopmund
