Spend Christmas and the New Year in Swaziland this year, experience something different. Have a genuine African Christmas, with all the trimmings, in the sunshine and with like-minded people. Discovering Swaziland at your own pace is a wonderful way to explore the Kingdom. The Kingdom has eluded mass tourism and its discreet and untouched attractions are delightful. It is the ideal destination for first time visitors to Africa, for up close and personal wildlife experiences and to see genuine Africa.

Swaziland is unique in the fact that there are lots of places where you can walk unaccompanied in reserves – where there is no big game! This is an opportunity to have your own mini adventure visiting charming and intimate reserves set away from the mass hubbub of tourism.

Itinerary

Days 1 – 4: Mlilwane – walk with zebra and antelope
Mlilwane is Swaziland’s oldest protected area and gave birth to the concept of nature conservation in the Kingdom. Enjoy the unique opportunity to walk
 amongst zebra and antelope or sip a gin and tonic and watch the hippo. See traditional dancing and visit local markets to watch curios being created by hand.

25 Dec 2018 CHRISTMAS DAY: A gentle morning walk to take in this incredible reserve and some free time to  try the optional activities of riding through the reserve or even cycling gently around the reserve. Arrive back in time for your Christmas Lunch in Main Camp where a typical African celebration is to be had. Dine on local food as well as traditional fayre.

Accommodation: The huts have the feel of traditional Swazi huts over looking the bushveld. They are tastefully designed with en suite bathroom and in keeping with the surrounding area. It is tranquil and relaxing place with a continual stream of animals such as impala, warthog and nyala walking outside your room.

new6Days 5 – 6: Foresters Arms – a haven in the mountains
The Foresters Arms dates from colonial times and is a place of great character and charm. It is gloriously situated on its own estate in the mountains and set in the heart of the Kingdom it is ideal for exploring all attractions. Visit Ngwenya mine, the glass factory and magical Malolotja and take time to explore the highveld of Swaziland and away from the crowds.

Accommodation: The bedrooms are tastefully decorated, with bathrooms en suite, telephones and satellite TV. The personal touch of the Foresters Arms spills over into the bedrooms as well where they have a homely and welcoming feeling to them. 

rhino smallDays 7 – 8: Mkhaya – the ultimate Big Game safari
A premier reserve which has the elusive black rhino. Unique and intimate encounters with Mkhaya’s endangered wildlife are exceptional and all travel within the reserve is by open Land Rovers or on foot. Tranquility in the bush.

Experience life in the bush with a touch of luxury under a starlit African sky.

Accommodation: beautiful cottages situated in the bush which are laid out discretely in the riverine forest overlooking the dry riverbed. Luxury in the bush dining out under a starlit African sky.

Days 9 – 11: Hlane – rhino on your doorstep
In the vast bushveld of eastern Swaziland where the hot, still sun of Africa beats on the dry but life-giving soils lies Swaziland’s largest protected area, Hlane Royal National Park. Hlane is home to the largest herds of game in the Kingdom and at night go to sleep listening to the distant roar of lion

31 Dec 2018: In the later afternoon we travel into Simunye for New years Eve celebrations at Simunye Country Club. Dine out under the stars to a gastronomic feast and watch the fireworks over the starlit sky.

Accommodation: en-suite rondavels at the water hole. These twin rooms are beautifully designed and set in the bush where impala wander by.
